Term 1 - Week 4

Dear Parents and Carers,

As always it has been a busy week at the College. Last week our new students had milkshakes at the tuckshop and visited the farm with a friend. We love the way our new students are included and welcomed into our community.

Covid Update

The College has been notified of positive test results for COVID-19 within our school community this week.

Our school has been taking all appropriate precautions regarding health and hygiene and we will continue to act in accordance with the advice of Queensland Health.

Please continue to:

  • Monitor yourself and your family for COVID-19 symptoms that can include fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, headache, fatigue, diarrhoea, vomiting or nausea, loss of smell and/or taste.

  • Keep your child at home if feeling unwell. If your child has developed any COVID -19 symptoms, you should attend your local Queensland Health testing clinics where students are prioritised to get a free rapid antigen test (RAT).

  • Continue to follow all Queensland Health advice.

If students become symptomatic while at school, you will be contacted to collect them. You will also be provided with a rapid antigen test (RAT) to administer at home. If your child tests positive to COVID-19, please follow Queensland Health guidelines for reporting the test result, isolation and quarantine. More COVID-19 related information is available from www.health.qld.gov.au

Parent Information Evening

Last Thursday we had our Parent Information Evening. A digital copy of the information will be sent to parents tomorrow if you were unable to attend.

Clubs and Co-curricular

This week our clubs and co-curricular activities began. The diversity of options is a true credit to our talented staff.

Attached below is the CLUBS TIMETABLE for your perusal. Our teachers will remind students of the clubs on offer to them, and we ask that you join us in encouraging your child/children to choose a club of interest to attend.

Dance

Under our CAPA – Calvary Academy of Performing Arts - we have engaged an external Dance Teacher to facilitate dance classes in our Junior School for Term 1. These classes will focus on both fun and technique. As we move into Term 2, we will look at extending the dance opportunities as we know this is an interest area for our community. Please watch this space as further opportunities arise.

Social Emotional Wellbeing

As part of our Formations program we will be raising awareness regarding; Positive Friendships in Term 1 and Bullying in Term 2.

As the term progresses, you may hear the language of “Friendship Fires” and “Mean on Purpose”.

Friendship fires are disagreements we can solve. Mean on Purpose needs to be reported to teachers, learning aides, or parents.

We will send more information on the program as the term unfolds.

Volunteer Hours

To simplify the collection of volunteer hours, the College has developed an electronic form for parents to log their hours.  The form can be accessed via the below link and will be accessible on the new app under Parent Links from 21 February 2022.

https://calvaryqld.csassurance.com/contracts/new?contract_template=29&token=uwcgH7GsxzoBpTwZDqh7

This form will replace the hard copy forms previously held in reception.  All hours will need to be submitted electronically to be tallied at the end of the year. Any families who volunteer 24 or more hours will be credited their P&F Levy for 2022.

You will receive a copy of each submission via email, which can be used to keep a tally of your total hours volunteered.  Should you require confirmation of your total hours, please contact HR@calvarycc.qld.edu.au

New Website

We are excited to announce that our new and improved website will be launched on  Thursday 24th February.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement during these dynamic times.

Yours sincerely,

Fiona Burnett
