Term 1 - Week 9

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for booking in time to meet with teaching staff to discuss your child’s learning progress and goals for Term 2. The partnership between home and school is so important. Our children learn best when they feel supported and encouraged by all the adults in their lives, and when there is consistency within the environments they most commonly do life in. If you haven’t been able to book in a time this week to chat with your child’s teacher, either face to face or via zoom, please get in touch with them to work out a time.

Easter Chapel

Next week we have Pastor Jayden and a team of students from Middle Senior School leading our Easter Chapel.  This will be on Wednesday afternoon at 2:15pm at Real Life Christian Church. We welcome you to join with us as this is a wonderful time for our community to get together and focus on the upcoming Easter season.

Swimming Carnival

On Thursday 31 March we will have our Stage 2 and 3 Swimming Carnival (Years 3 -6). This week the students will nominate for their races and come together in houses to rehearse their famous War Cries!  We welcome our parents to come and watch the carnival.

Free Dress Day

On Friday we will have our End of Term Free Dress Day. Please bring a donation to support families in our community who have been flood-affected.  Please remember to ensure your child has closed in shoes and is appropriately dressed for a school day on Friday. The theme for Free Dress is crazy hair and socks!

Middle School Immersion and Q & A

The Year 6 students had a great time at Carbrook this week for their transition experience. They met key staff, completed a scavenger hunt designed to help them navigate their way around campus, and spent time with senior students learning war cries for the upcoming Swimming Carnival.

Middle School is big next step for our Stage 3 students, and the best way to take this step confidently, is to arm them with knowledge and experiences that simulate Middle School life.

On Monday morning, we invite all parents to come and meet with Mr Dino Arraiol the Head of MSS Wellbeing and Mrs Nicky O’Donnell the Head of Year 7. They are keen to answer any questions you may have about Year 7, and the whole Middle School experience. Come and enjoy a coffee and an informal chat with us from 8:00am at The Hub near Happy Hens.

Following this, we are excited to have Mr Paul Heagney, the Head of Stage 6 (Yr 11 and 12), and a team of senior students coming to run drone lessons with our Stage 3 students.

Missions

Our students are so passionate about service and mission. The line-up for Mission Club ice blocks has been out the door and down the path this week. They are raising money for our international Compassion Children and for those impacted by the local floods.

Happy Hens will be selling pancakes on Wednesday 30 March at First Break for $2, with the proceeds of this and Free Dress Day going to support those affected by the recent floods. If students would like to support this, please send them with change or small notes to assist with purchases.

Thank you for your ongoing support. Have a wonderful last week of Term.

CAPA Update - Dr Gary Holley, Head of Calvary Academy of
Performing Arts

Another great week in the CAPA department. Instrumental lessons are going great, and the new band and strings students are progressing well. Due to the swimming carnival next Thursday, there will be no band or string group lessons. Private lessons will be scheduled by the teachers for next week. There will still be choir on Thursday morning as we have a performance in the first week back. It will finish at 8.20am so the students can get to class ready to board the buses.

We have our Cunningham Opening at Carbrook on the first day of Term 2, 19th of April. All choir students will be performing at this opening. A letter outlining the times and requirements will be emailed and put on the CAPA Facebook page. This will be our first performance for the year.

Is your child interested in learning Bass Guitar, Guitar or Singing? We have lesson times available at both campuses. Private Lessons are $38 per half hour and Group Lessons of 2 people are $19 per half hour (Subject to numbers) Use the following link if you would like to sign your child up for lessons.
