Middle Senior School Communications, 10 March 2022

Term 1, Week 7

Dear Parents and Carers

I would like to thank everyone for their patience over the past fortnight.

The flooding at the College has receded, although some sections of the College will be out of bounds and fenced off for the foreseeable future. We are working with our insurers and contractors to have our full facilities up and running again as soon as possible.

We had our first whole Middle and Senior School assembly yesterday. It was wonderful to come together properly as a community and I would like to congratulate all our Math Pathway award winners (photographs are on the MSS Facebook page).

Over the next fortnight, our library is running a ‘get caught reading’ competition, where students who get ‘caught’ reading around campus, in their own time, will be eligible for prizes. I would like to thank Mrs Collins, our Library Coordinator, for this wonderful initiative. There is an enormous quantity of research-based evidence on the positive effect reading for pleasure has on student outcomes. Students are more likely to engage in reading for pleasure if this is modelled at home – families that value reading are more likely to have children that value reading. Therefore, I would encourage parents and carers to consider being ‘caught’ reading at home.

Upcoming events:

16 March: Induction Service

Parents of children in Years 7 and 12 are invited to the Induction Service on Wednesday 16th of March at 9am in the CCC. We are welcoming our Year 7 students into high school, presenting them with their College Bible, as well as acknowledging our 2022 Stage 5 and Year 12 leaders.

16 March: P&F Special Meeting

The Presidents of the P&F Associations from BOTH CAMPUSES invite you to a special general meeting of both P&F bodies to be held on 16 March (next Wednesday) at Real Life Christian Church on Dennis Road in Springwood at 7:00pm. This is a significant meeting in the life of our Calvary Community as an important vote will be held to determine whether there will be changes to the way parents volunteer and partner deeply with the College in the future.

1 April: Swimming Carnival

After being postponed several times, the MSS Swimming Carnival is now on Friday the 1st of April (letter coming in the next fortnight). The carnival will be held at the Pimpama Sports Hub Aquatic Centre. As COVID restrictions have changed, parents and carers are now welcome to attend the event.
