Principal Communications, 27 February 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

College Closure

Owing to the impact of the extreme weather conditions, both campuses will be closed on Monday.

We are monitoring road conditions as well as conditions on campus and will keep you updated as the situation unfolds.

Should the closure extend beyond Monday, we will consider moving to our remote learning model, as we do in a lockdown context. We appreciate that this might prove challenging as so many areas have unreliable internet access during extreme weather conditions. We are also aware that many families, including staff are dealing with flooding in their homes.

This morning both campuses were checked and there is a lot of water around, but buildings appear to be largely unaffected.

Carbrook campus borders the Logan river and farm animals were moved to higher ground yesterday and then relocated again today to provide better shelter. Farm fences have been adjusted to minimise damage when/if debris moves across the area. The oval is totally underwater. Power to the farm, oval and sports facilities has been turned off.

There is not much more we can do now, but wait for the waters to peak and then recede. We have been notified that we should expect the levels to be higher than the 2017 flood incident.

Please stay safe, limit travel and look out for updated communications through our usual channels including the Facebook groups.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Cherylynne Gostelow

Principal & CEO
